How We Check Rates

Rates move. An account that tops a list in the spring can be middle of the pack by fall, so here’s how the numbers on TopSavings get onto the page and how you can tell how old they are.

This is the method we use as of October 2026.

We read each rate at the bank

Every APY, minimum deposit and monthly cost on a comparison page comes from the bank’s own product page, rate sheet or account disclosures. We don’t copy rates from other comparison sites.

What if a bank’s page doesn’t give a figure? Then the page says “Not stated” and we don’t guess.

Every comparison shows a date

A page that quotes rates tells you the day those rates were checked. You’ll find the date near the top, like on our best high-yield savings accounts page.

Savings rates are variable. A bank can change one the day after we read it, so check the rate on the bank’s site before you open anything.

Sources are listed

Pages that quote rates end with a Sources list. It links to each bank page we read and gives the date we read it, so you can check our work in a couple of clicks.

How accounts are ranked

We rank on the facts stated on the page: the rate you keep after any promo ends, the minimum to open, the monthly cost and the conditions tied to the rate. A comparison explains its own order in a “How we picked” section.

Some accounts on a page have a referral link and some don’t. Both kinds are listed, and both are ranked on the same stated facts.

When rates change

When a bank changes a rate or an offer ends, we re-check the page, update the figures and change the date.

Spot a number that looks out of date? Tell us and we’ll check it.

What you won’t find here

We don’t show live rate feeds, star ratings or scores. You get the rate, the day we read it and where we read it.
